According to the latest news reports, at least 350 people will die on a daily basis from this upper respiratory disease if nobody takes the neccessary precautions and applies them in their daily lives inorder to save themselves and others around them.
People who have medical problems are said to suffer the most, but we can never be too careful even if we are fit and healthy as it seems that this disease is affecting all people of all ages from around the world.
There are so many conflicting advice between doctors and pateints, some people get told to go straight to AE (accident and emergency) whilst some people get told to visit their GPs or stay at home and not leave until they are cured. This makes it so easy for the virus to keep on spreading from person to person and it doesn't help that schools which have had cases of swine flu refuse to close down, even if it's just for a few days whilst they get someone to come and clean the school and sterelise it just to make sure that nothing is left of the virus, whether it's dead or alive.
Apparantly, a vaccine is on the way and should be ready by christmas according to some news reports. There is even some drug called Tamiflu which is already been perscribed to many pateints by their GPs who may have been affected by this virus or may have been in contact with someone who has.
However, even if you have been told to stay at home there are many helpful things which you can do to ease the symptoms and help you recover and these include:
- resting completely-do not go to work, school, shopping, do not worry about house chores
- drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated and help lower your temperature
- wear lose pyjamas made with cotton to keep you comfortable
- take paracetamol tablets if you have a fever and experiencing chills, aches and pain and headaches
- eat the foods which will strenghten your immune system such as foods high in vitamin C like oranges, freshly squeezed orange juice, blueberries, lemon juice, blackberries and foods high in selenium such as brazil nuts
- eat foods high in protein to builed white blood cell walls such as eggs, lean turkey, chicken breast, lean red meat, beans
- and eat some complex carbohydrates like porridge, wholegrain cereals, brown rice to give your body energy to fight this infection
- take any prescribed medication at the designated times
Put yourselves first...look after yourselves
